Selling:
87 Simmental & SimAngus Bulls
Including 14 18-Month-Olds
19 Open Herd Improving Replacement Heifers
Bulls will be semen checked and yearling weights will be
available sale day. Bulls have been fed a predominately
roughage ration that is no more than 1% of their body weight
in concentrates, anticipating a 3 lb. average daily gain.
Projected yearling weights will be available sale day!
Because of the late arrival of some of the bulls, we felt
data would be more accurate if taken closer to sale date for
a longer feeding period. We are retaining 50% semen interest
on all bulls unless other terms are agreed upon prior to the
sale. Commercial bull buyers would only be affected by this
if their purchase would produce calves that would benefit
the seedstock industry. Herd bull prospects will be DNA and
coat color evaluated. Please call for results.
Yearling Bulls can be left until May 1st at no charge. Bulls
picked up sale day will receive a $50 per head discount.
Terms and
Conditions:
All cattle sell under the terms and conditions of the
American Simmental Association.
Payment:
My banker agreed to stay out of the cattle business if I
would stay out of the banking business so payment is
expected in a timely manner.
Delivery:
We will guarantee no more than $200 delivery on purchases
providing delivery accommodations are arranged by Springer
Simmentals! Out of state buyers please contact me prior to
the sale.
Health:
Harmony Vet Clinic: Dr. Lynn Aggen has performed all
pregnancy testing prior to the sale. All bulls and open
females have been vaccinated twice with Bovishield, Vision 7
with Lepto, Vibrio and poured in September, November and
again January 7th.
Special Notes: CUP data, scrotal measurements and
homo black and homo polled data will be available three
weeks prior to the sale. Please call for further
information.

. . . See you at the sale! |
WELCOME
Welcome to our Bull Sale of Value Based Genetics and thank
you for taking the time to consider our sale offering.
Change seems to still be the most certain thing in life, and
2008 will certainly fulfill that prophecy for us. Michelle
Springer and Todd Christenson will tie the knot April 5,
2008, and Lynda will retire her official title as the Nazi
wedding planner. When Lynda accuses me of being consumed
with my cattle, unfortunately I’ll lose the ability to
accuse of her of being consumed with the wedding. The good
news is Todd is a terrific, intelligent, hard working and
caring person that we are fortunate to welcome into our
family. Steve graduates from UW Madison this spring with a
degree in Business, Marketing and is currently looking for
employment. Michelle starts classes at UW Milwaukee in
January for one year of Pre Vet before applying for
Veterinary School. Good luck to all!
Change and uncertainty have certainly invaded agriculture
this year. Looking at corn prices since 1908, we notice the
market has reached new plateaus three times at approximately
30 year intervals, and the current market certainly show
signs of heading us to a fourth new level. The good news is
each and every time cattle prices have followed corn and
reached their own new plateaus. With one of the smallest cow
herds in history, and a shortage of feeder cattle, it
certainly looks like we are poised to follow the corn market
once again. With the demand and price for feed stuffs, the
value of good genetics increasingly plays a bigger role in
our profitability. Twenty-eight years of performance testing
and carcass evaluation is incorporated into our bulls and
females. Our “Value Based Genetics” mission statement was
developed to constantly remind us to consider the economics
of all of our breeding decisions for us and our customers.
Our advertising this year has focused on the benefits of
buying a Value Based Genetics bull. We consider our
customers to be our partners. Whatever we can do to make
your herd of cows more profitable is our common goal. We
have screened this year’s selection hard as they are the
result of over 900 matings and we believe they can be a
profitable addition to anyone’s herd. We have again
developed these bulls with predominately a forage ration
targeting a three lb. WDA. Using a bull five years vs. two
increases his profitability to you two and a half fold, and
feed and feet are a major contributor.
Igenity profiles are listed this year on some of the bulls
cataloged based on sire groups. We believe DNA profiles are
the best information source for accurate information
available. As more SNPS become available, we will continue
to utilize this technology as it promises to accurately rank
sires and their sons’ ability to transmit carcass
attributes. Please study this information closely as it is
the future of livestock breeding.
For maximum carcass premiums, a 70/70/0 goal has been set.
This is 70% choice, 70% yield grade 2 or better and no outs.
The yearling bulls in this year’s sale have an average
ribeye area of 15.33 square inches, 6.52 choice marbling
score and .21 inches of backfat. Exactly on target for
maximum profits!
As always, all of the cattle selling are guaranteed to
perform as expected or we’ll fix it to your satisfaction.
The individuals selling will be available for viewing the
day before the sale and we would encourage everyone to take
advantage of our hospitality and join us Wednesday or
Thursday for a showing of the bulls or the cow herd.
Please remember our servicemen in your thoughts and prayers
as they continue to protect our rights and liberties.
We look forward to seeing you February 21st!
Sincerely,
Jeff Springer
