What an exciting Denver for the Simmental Breed-truly Mile
High Magic! An undeniable tribute to our breeders for
stepping up to the plate and breeding cattle that are not
only accepted but sought after in all facets of the
industry. The movement of excitement started in the yards as
the competitive pen show once again delivered high quality
herd bull prospects for a full house of Simmental
enthusiast. The Power Bull participants showed the crowd
just why our breed is so popular-any one of the finalist
would be an added bonus to the finest of bull batteries. Not
to leave the ladies out as the female pen show had many in
the crowd leaning over the gates for a closer look. The
variety of types in the female show captured interest from
purebred breeders, commercial cattlemen and the club calf
industry. Sale day found Mother Nature on the cold side but
the determination of the cattle, breeders and buyers once
again prevailed to withstand the elements. With a packed
house, “The One- Vol. XV kicked off with the selection of
the Power Bull winner. Phillip Curtis of Paw Paw, MI was the
lucky one to have his power bull ticket pulled out- he
actually purchased the ticket on line prior to the
competition. Triple C Farms bull was selected and received
$10,000. Showrite Feeds was the exclusive sponsor of this
year’s Powerbull event.
Triple C Farms was the donator of an exception heifer calf
for the ASA/AJSA Foundation which commanded a price of
$10,000. The consortium of breeders from WI & AR purchased
this female and their names will be added to the
distinguished list of ASA Foundation contributors. It is
said that people come into your lives for a reason- some
leave quickly and some stay a life time. For all of us
involved in the ASA, we have had the great fortune to have a
couple come into our lives and stay. The guidance and
direction from Peter and Ila Courtney is priceless and a
gift that we all carry with us throughout our lives.
The sale offering in “The One” this year was once again a
renown offering which was selected by breeders involved in
all facets of the livestock industry with tremendous new
breeder involvement. Under the direction of Col. Jim
Birdwell, 53 ½ lots averaged $7700, selling into 22 states
and Canada.
