Site Unseen/On Order Purchase Policy:
We have a growing list of customers that rely on our
judgment to select bulls for them based on their
needs, environment and cowherd. Our policy is that
if we buy cattle for you on order, satisfaction is
guaranteed. If you feel they are not as represented
to you or you are not satisfied for any reason, you
don’t own them.
First Breeding Season Guarantee:
We represent these bulls to be sound and their
records to be accurate to the best of our ability.
All bulls are fully guaranteed for structural
soundness and fertility. If an unfortunate problem
arises, please notify us promptly. We can provide a
satisfactory replacement (if available) or a credit
will be issued for next year’s sale for the bull’s
full purchase price less any salvage value received.
We highly recommend purchasing short term insurance
in the event of bull death.
Interest Retained In Bulls:
You will notice that we are selling a % interest and
full possession in a select group of herd sires in
this offering. This means the bull is in your
control and possession unless otherwise stated or
for mutually agreed upon handling of the bull for
promotional purposes. You get 100% of the salvage
value of the bull. We simply reserve the right to
share in any revenue from semen sales in the bull if
at sometime in the future, semen sales becomes a
possibility. If you sell the bull to another
breeder, NCC/DJ retains their stated semen interest
in the bull. Retaining a semen interest also
reserves access to young sires we wish to
incorporate back into the NCC/DJ breeding program.
Any semen you choose to collect as an “insurance
policy” on your bull for you own use, is 100% yours.
Costs incurred in building a jointly owned semen
bank for sale purposes will be shared equally based
on the portion of interest owned by each party.
We feel this set of bulls offers more potential
“Herd Bull” candidates than any group sold to date.
We don’t always get those bulls identified prior to
sale day and we’re consequently retaining an
(in-herd only) semen interest on every bull in the
offering. Costs incurred in collecting semen for NCC/DJ
within herd use will be the responsibility of Nagel
Cattle Company. Any semen collected will be arranged
at the convenience of the new owner of the
possession interest in the bull.
PHA Issue:
All current registered Maine-Anjou and MaineTainer
cows and bred heifers have been tested along with
any bulls used natural or A.I. Furthermore, any
progeny of dams or sires testing positive (carriers)
will be tested prior to the sale.
PHA status is noted in pedigree
information.
F/T = PHA Free by Test
F/P = PHA Free by Parentage
C/T = PHA Carrier by Test
Blank = PHA Unknown
Semen Test:
$50 credit per yearling bull lots. This entitles the
purchaser to semen test at a later date but in
accordance with the terms located in the back of the
sale catalog. All Fall and 2 year old bulls will be
semen tested.
Post Sale Day Protocol
All lots are to be loaded out sale day. In the case
of an on order or internet purchases, arrangements
will be made until trucking arrangements can be
made.

Dear Cattlemen,
The Nagel and DeJong families would like to
invite you to our annual production sale. I
didn’t know if I should call this sale the
First Annual or the 54th Annual Bull Sale.
The DeJong Ranch has been selling bulls for
40 years and the Nagel Cattle Co. has been
offering Maine-Anjou seedstock for 14 years.
The saying goes “You can choose your friends
but not your relatives”. In this case the
DeJong family is both. Growing up, spending
time at their ranch, branding, clipping sale
bulls, or just observing how things were
done in a purebred operation had a
great influence in my life.
My family started buying Maine bulls in the
70’s from the DeJong Ranch. Today the DeJong
and Nagel programs may vary in the influence
of certain traits but the quality, emphasis
on maternal traits, and integrity are
undoubtedly the same.
We are excited about the opportunity to
provide our customers the highest quality
set of bulls, heifer calves and bred heifers
at the Nagel sale barn location on Friday,
February 29, 2008.
Please feel free to visit with Miles or
myself prior to the sale, so we may help
select genetics or phenotypes that best fit
your operation’s goals.
Sincerely,
Blane Nagel |
